White Mage

The white mage is a classic feature in the Final Fantasy Games. The white mage is a class and also considered a job. It is also referred to a White Wizard or Priest.

These characters cast curative and support magic. These include healing, resurrection, haste-like spells. They also have a limited amount of attack-like magic, like Holy. This adds some offensive characteristics to the class. They have also been linked to the Summonr class as we see in both Final Fantasy IX and in Final Fantasy X.

There are links to white mages to witchcraft and folklore. A white witch title is given to cunning folk - a witch who woul dbe paid for removing the effects of witchcraft. Modern white witches use white magic for purification, cleansing and defense.

The White Witch
In the tale from Narnia there exists a White Witch, however she has a different role from healing, etc.

THE long gloomy hall was full of pillars and stone statues. There was a dwarf adn the great shape of a centaur; and in the middle was a little faun with a sad expresion on his face. the hall was guarded by a huge grey wolf, with hair bristling all along its back adn a great red mouth. It was Maugrim, Chief of the Witch's Secret Police.

The only light that came form a single lamp and close beside this sat the White Witch who had put a spell on Narnia so taht it was always winter and never Christmas. She was taller than any woman you have ever seenl she was covered in white fur up to her throat and she held a long golden wand and wore a golden crown on her head. Her face was white - like snow or paper or icing-sugar, except for her very red mouth. It was a beautiful face in other respects, but proud and cold and stern.

Clothing
Most of the White Mages have a specific costume. Technically speaking they have a long white robe which has sleeves and a hood that covers their hair. Normally it is the female White Mages that wear the hood, however the males don't wear the hood at all. They also have red triangular patterns on the cuffs of the sleeves and the bottoms of their robes.

Other Famous White Mages: MinWu, Rosa Farrell and the more popular Aerith Gainsborough, Garnet Til Alexandros and Yuna.
