Mythology

One of the most prevelant historical facts about Knights is Arthur and the Knights of the Round table, which try to uphold not only honour and justice, but equality.

There drew he forth the brand Excalibur,
And o'er him, drawing it, the winter moon,
Brightening the skirts of a long cloud, ran forth
And sparled keen with frost against the hilt:
For all the haft twinkled with diamond sparks,
Myriads of topaz-lights, and jacinth-work,
Of subtlest jewellry.

Alfred, Lord Tenyson, 'The Passing of Arthur'

There is a great correlation between the mythology of King Arthur and his relationship with Merlin and Steiner and Vivi. Whether or not this was directly related, there is still an explanation here.

My strenght is as the strength of ten,
Because my heart is pure.

Alfred, Lord Tenyson, 'Sir Galahad'

A Knight is devout, pure and honest. They uphold the King's word in mythology and bring forth happiness and justice, fighting in the name of the people of England, Camelot and other nations with honorific orders.

Steiner is a classic Knight who wields a swords and often similar to that of King Arthur himself - Excalibur, Excalibur 2.

They have a great correleation not only because of their relationship with Merlin, but also their fighting techniques, personality, morals and goals. They are a pure hearted Knight that abides by the law who are strong in battle with a sword. They have a dear friend, a Mage who makes up the knight's weaknesses in their strengths.

Arthur's wife, Guinevere is also an integral part of the story. Could his Guinevere be some one related to our Garnet? Garnet in the end chooses not to listen to Steiner who tries to make her return to the castle, but to follow Zidane instead. Guinevere leaves King Arthur for Lancelot and leaves the kingdom of Camelot. Guinevere's name is the same as the Welsh, "Gwenhwyfar" which means in english, "White Phantom". Is this relating to Garnet's class as a White Mage? Even though Steiner never had any romantic interest in Garnet, we can see similar pattern of the relationships of the classes of people in each story. We see either some very strong coincidences or strong connections. Some facets of Steiner's personality and attire/weapons and his relationship with Vivi the Black Mage are so strong that it would seem like Square made them on purpose, they could be just coincidences in the story.

Chivalric Code of the Knights of Camelot
I solemnly swear to be a good knight of the Round Table of Camelot and to never use violence without purpose, never to fall to murder treason. I swear on my honour to give mercy when asked and to protect the innocents and to enforce their rights. I promise to never fight in any unjust cause or to fight for personal gain. This oath I take upon my knighthood in the Round Table of Camelot.

True History of the Knight
The historical term of knight is from the High Middle Ages and is referred to armed Equastrians of royalty and high nobility. They are heavy cavalry. The rank of Knight was only passed down to those of Royal heritage and that of improper or lower birth could not become a Knight. They could only hope to be a squire. They were from the British colony.

The word Knight comes from Old English cniht which means page boy or servant. It is still so in Dutch and German which is knecht.
