Once a honored Red Dragon Knight, Freya left her home land, Burmecia (the City of Eternal Rain) three years before the game in search of her lost love, Sir Fratley, a Red Dragon Knight who had taken leave two years earlier. Because she never heard of his 'death', she continued her journey, searching the entire world for one man/dragoon. You first encounter Freya at a bar in the city of Lindblum. It turns out, she had known Zidane (the hero and main character) in the past, their relationship extending prior to the beginning of the game. Soon after discovering the force threatening to dominate the world (Queen Brahne and Alexandria), Freya accompanies Zidane and the others to fight against it. At this point, she becomes a playable character. And a powerful one at that.
